Magento profit checklist
Eight checks before you trust a Magento margin number.
Use this when Magento revenue looks healthy but the bank balance disagrees. It is an operating checklist for data quality — not accounting or tax advice.

Fix completeness before making a budget decision.
If a check is not confirmed, treat the P&L as incomplete and resolve that input before scaling a campaign or discount.

Pick one revenue policy
Document which Magento amount is revenue and whether your operating view is tax-inclusive. Keep the policy consistent when comparing periods.

Confirm order and credit-memo coverage
A P&L cannot be more complete than its sync. Check that the selected date range includes both orders and Magento refunds.

Find SKUs with sales but missing COGS
Blank or zero cost is a review task, not proof that a product costs nothing. Pay special attention to configurable and bundle products.

Separate charged shipping from merchant shipping cost
Free shipping to a customer still costs the merchant. Review the cost rule against carrier invoices and fulfilment routes.

Apply payment fees by payment method
Use the percent and fixed components of the PSP fee where methods differ. Reconcile an estimate to PSP statements periodically.

Align ad spend to Magento store time
Google and Meta accounts can use another timezone. Put spend and orders on the same daily calendar before judging a campaign.

Choose cash or cohort before comparing profit
Cash books refunds on refund day. Cohort moves them back to the order date. Both are useful; mixing them is not.

Label assumptions and assign an owner
Record who validates COGS, shipping, fees and manual expenses. Update the rule when contracts or fulfilment change.
